What to Expect:
Upper King’s “Off the Map” tour allows you to eat, walk, and explore the dynamic culinary scene of upper King Street and its surrounding neighborhoods.
This 2.5 hour walking tour starts right on King Street, and then sets off to explore the surrounding neighborhoods as you experience Charleston like a true “local”. Be sure to check out our “Tasting Locations” section for further information on each stop.
In between each of our four to five tasting stops, you’ll get to explore the history, culture, and architecture of Charleston’s city streets. Our licensed, knowledgeable tour guides will leave you with a renewed understanding of Charleston’s local food scene.
Who Should Take the Tour:
Want to eat like a local and get away from the tourist scene? Then come join us!
This tour is appropriate for varying ages and fitness levels. (We don’t recommend our tours for young children under the age of 5.) The route is approximately 1.1 miles over the course of 2.5 hours, and we keep a moderate walking pace. There are also several stopping points along the route for tastings as well as historical/cultural/architectural tidbits.
While you should expect to be standing for the majority of the tour, there is seating available at select tasting locations. You can plan for around 30-45 minutes of total seated time throughout the tour.
We recommend our Upper King street tour for those that have either been to Charleston in the past, or are looking to get away from the tourist scene.
We also recommend booking the tour toward the beginning of your stay as it is a great way to become acquainted with Charleston and all that it has to offer. You may just find your new favorite restaurant along our route, and our knowledgeable tour guides are a great resource for additional suggestions around the city during your time here.
